Saturday night storms lead to sunny Sunday

Thunderstorms, at times severe, roared through Lawrence Saturday night, dropping 1.73 inches of rain.

About 1.7 inches of rain fell during the most active part of the storm, from about 8 p.m Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service rainfall totals at Lawrence Municipal Airport.

Some areas in Kansas experienced flash floods. There is a flood warning for the Marais Des Cygnes River at Osawatomie from Sunday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon, and a flood warning for the Neosho River near Emporia until Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka.

Saturday’s storms made way for summer-like weather on Sunday for Kansas University’s 2015 commencement. Sunshine with a high of 84 degrees is expected throughout the day, with a breeze and possible wind gusts.

Monday’s forecast calls for sun and mild temperatures, with a high of 72.
