Today in Lawrence: A nice day for tacos

Another nice day

We daresay that weather conditions might be as perfect as it gets today. The start of the day will be a little chilly, with temperatures in the low 50s for your morning commute, but it’s expected to warm up to the 60s by lunchtime. It will reach 69 by late afternoon under sunny skies before cooling down into the 50s again after sunset.

Taco Tuesday

Rumor (and an official social media account) has it that Taco Zone’s new brick and mortar restaurant will be opening this morning. If you’re not familiar, Taco Zone has been operating for the last couple of years as a popular food stand on the Replay Lounge’s patio during warm-weather months, and offers a revolving menu of traditional, Southern Californian-style tacos. The restaurant, located at 13 E. Eighth St., is expected to open at 11 a.m., so hungry patrons can “get in the zone,” so to speak, starting then.

The Devil Wears Prada will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Granada.

Devil Wears Prada

Tonight, the Granada plays host to The Devil Wears Prada the metalcore band, not to be confused with “The Devil Wears Prada” the Meryl Streep movie about high fashion, although the two aren’t totally unrelated. The band’s name is a reference to the book the movie is based on and having an anti-materialistic mindset to their music (even though the book isn’t all that anti-materialistic). In any event, the self-described “true-blue thinking person’s heavy metal band” will perform its “Zombie” album in its entirety, with supporting bands Secrets, Sleepwave, A River Forth, starting at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets cost $23.
