Throwing error in 10th dooms KU baseball, 2-1

? An ill-timed throwing error in the 10th inning doomed Kansas University to a 2-1 Big 12 baseball loss to No. 3-ranked TCU on Saturday at Lupton Stadium.

Each team scored a run in the fifth, surrounded by all zeroes before the bottom of the 10th.

With one out and runners on first and second, Ryan Pidhaichuk smothered a grounder at third, but his throw sailed into right field, and the Horned Frogs (39-9, 15-5) walked off with the victory.

“We made some switches to try to get a run in the top of the 10th inning,” KU coach Ritch Price said of his offensive moves that resulted in Pidhaichuk entering as a defensive replacement. “That led to Pidhaichuk having to play third base. He had a chance at the 5-4-3 double play and just made a bad throw. There is no sugar-coating it. He made a bad play. He is one of the toughest guys in my dugout, and he will tell you that he made a bad throw.”

Five TCU pitchers allowed just four hits combined by the Jayhawks (22-30, 7-13).

Neither of the Frogs’ runs was earned: TCU collected eight hits, and Kansas made three errors.

TCU will try to complete the three-game series sweep today. First pitch is 1 p.m., with a live telecast on FS2, available locally on WOW! channel 153.
