Free State High School hires longtime school administrator from Missouri as next principal

Myron Graber, a school district administrator in Missouri, has been chosen as the next principal at Free State High School.

Graber is in his seventh year serving the Jefferson City Public Schools in Missouri. He serves as their academy coordinator but has also spent time as an assistant superintendent of secondary education. He also spent 20 years as a high school principal in several Kansas communities.

“He has a broad knowledge of effective classroom and school management practices and is well suited to work with staff, students and parents to move Free State High School forward on its path toward achieving our district excellence and equity goals,” said Lawrence Superintendent Rick Doll in a statement.

Current FSHS principal Ed West will resign effective June 30 to become the principal of Shawnee Heights High School in Topeka.

Graber spent seven years as athletic director and 11 years as a teacher and coach at Fairfield High School in Langdon. He has also worked as an adjunct assistant professor for Baker University. He has a bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University.

“Lawrence has a great school system, and Free State is a great school,” Graber said in a statement. “We’ve been anxious to get back to Kansas, and Lawrence has always been one of those destinations where we knew we’d like to live, so when this opportunity came up, that was it.”
