KU coach Bill Self visited the parents of former Charlotte center Mike Thorne Jr. on Monday in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Self met with Thorne, a 6-11, 270-pound junior, last Thursday.

Thorne will visit KU on May 1 and Illinois on April 17 according to kansas.247sports.com.

Thorne, who averaged 10.1 points and 7.3 rebounds a game last season, is considering a transfer to KU, Pitt, Illinois, Marquette, West Virginia, Xavier, Arizona, Virginia Tech, Minnesota and others.

Self on Monday also visited Dennis Smith Jr., a 6-2 junior point guard from Trinity Christian in Fayetteville, North Carolina, which happens to be the alma mater of Thorne.
