Lions’ Bonner, Firebirds’ Piper honored

Lawrence High senior basketball standout Anthony Bonner and Free State High sophomore Madison Piper both earned Class 6A first-team All-State honors from the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association on Monday.

Bonner also was selected to play in the KBCA All-Star game, which will be played on June 27th at Kansas Wesleyan University.

LHS junior Justin Roberts was named to the second team and Free State senior Weston Hack picked up an honorable mention.

Among area players, Eudora sophomore Mitchell Ballock was a Class 4A-I boys first-team All-State selection, along with Ottawa sophomore Isaac McCullough. Eudora junior Austin Downing earned an honorable mention. Wellsville senior Dalton Verhulst also received an honorable mention in 3A.

Baldwin High senior Maddie Ogle was named to the 4A-II girls first-team, while freshman Abby Ogle was placed on the second team. Mill Valley senior Jabria Leggett was an honorable mention in 5A, and Ottawa senior Corie Fischer and De Soto senior Megan Bonar picked up honorable mentions in 4A-I.
