Keith Jones, Free State High School’s assistant principal, will step down from his position at the end of this school year, the Lawrence school district announced Wednesday.

Jones has accepted a position as a middle school principal in Topeka, according to school spokeswoman Julie Boyle. This is Jones’ second year at Free State High School, the release said.

Before working in Lawrence, Jones was an administrative intern and freshman administrator for one year in Overland Park. He also taught journalism for five years in Kansas City, Kan.

“Lawrence is a great place to work and for kids to receive a quality education,” Jones said in the release. “I am definitely a better person and educator for having been a part of Lawrence Public Schools.”

The Lawrence district will immediately look to fill Jones’ position, Boyle said.
