Kansas buildings and bridges to light up for National Work Zone Awareness Week

In the first official week of spring, Kansans may notice an additional orange glow after dark, officials said.

Several different buildings and bridges across the state will display orange lights for National Work Zone Awareness Week, the Kansas Department of Transportation said in a release.

The lights, which will be on every night through Friday, are meant to raise awareness for work zone safety, the release said.

Some of the buildings and bridges participating in National Work Zone Awareness Week:

  • Kansas Department of Transportation district offices in Topeka, Salina, Norton, Chanute, Hutchinson and Garden City
  • The Governor’s Mansion in Topeka
  • The Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge in Atchison
  • The Eisenhower State Office Building in Topeka
  • Topeka’s City Hall Building
  • The Kansas Turnpike Authority’s headquarters in Wichita
  • The Travel Information Center on Interstate 70, near Goodland
  • The 87th Street Bridge over Interstate 35 and Renner Truss in Lenexa
  • The fountain in front of Lenexa’s City Hall

The department is also encouraging Kansans to participate in raising awareness by wearing orange on Thursday, the release said.

Every day blog posts written by highway and law enforcement workers will be published online at www.ksdot.org in order to share their experiences in work zones.
