Home runs power Hawkeyes past Kansas baseball, 6-2

Kansas University stranded 17 runners and surrendered three home runs in a 6-2 baseball loss to Iowa on Sunday at Hoglund Ballpark.

KU had 10 hits and drew seven walks, but the 17 stranded runners were the most in the Ritch Price era.

“We had an unbelievable number of opportunities to score,” 13th-year coach Price said. “We had some really bad at bats with runners in scoring position. Not taking advantage of those at bats is magnified late in the game.”

Michael Tinsley and Joven Afenir each had two hits for KU.

Drew Morovick (2-3) took the loss after allowing four runs — all earned — off 10 hits over five innings.

Iowa took two of three with KU over the weekend and improved to 14-5. KU fell to 9-14.

The Jayhawks will play at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Missouri State.
