25 years ago: Computer use on the rise in Lawrence schools

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 23, 1990:

A recent survey revealed most students in Lawrence elementary schools used computers on a regular basis. A total of 66 percent of elementary school staff members participated in the survey; nearly 73 percent of the respondents said they had at least one computer in their classrooms, and 67 percent with classroom computers said that all of their students used the computers on a regular basis. Only 2.4 percent said the classroom computers were for teacher use only. However, many teachers said steps could be taken to allow students even more time on computers and greater development of computer skills. About 41 percent of the respondents said they would like more training in computer use, and 25 percent said they would like some staff support when working with the computers. Over half, 57.6 percent said they agreed with East Heights Principal Willie Amison that “the main thing is to get more computers into the classroom.”
