Renowned writer and performer Heather Harpham will visit the Kansas University theater department as an artist-in-residence this week.

From Monday to Friday, Harpham will give two public presentations, lead a demonstration with students and perform her most recent solo show, “BURNING.” The performance, which will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Baustian Theater in Murphy Hall, relies on movement, song, images and spoken word to address the issues of climate change.

Other public events organized in partnership with The Commons, include an Artist Talk at 5:30 p.m. Monday at The Commons and a Coffee at The Commons event at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Harpham has taught physical theater and improvisation at several institutions, including Sarah Lawrence College and Muhlenberg College. As a writer, she received the Brenda Ueland Prose Prize for fiction and was a 2009 nominee for a New York Innovative Theatre Award for her ensemble work with Company SoGoNo.
