KU softball tops Georgia State

Kansas University’s softball team won its ninth straight game, and Alicia Pille improved to 17-0, as the Jayhawks defeated Georgia State, 8-6, in the Rock Chalk Challenge on Saturday at Arrocha Ballpark.

Daniella Chavez hit a three-run home run and went 3-for-4, and Chanin Naudin also homered.

Chavez droved in four runs and scored two.

Kansas players huddle around sophomore Lily Behrmann (14) after she scored in the first inning of Kansas' game against Georgia State Saturday afternoon at Arrocha Ballpark.

“She’s locked in and having really good at-bats,” KU coach Megan Smith said of Chavez. “She has such a calm mindset, and she’s very confident in herself. Every time she comes up, I know she has a game plan and she’s going to stick with her game plan. She kept on attacking and producing for us.”

The Jayhawks (28-2) scored four runs in the first inning and led 8-3 after six innings.

Georgia State scored three runs in the seventh, but KU held on.

KU will meet Georgia State again at 10:30 a.m. today at Arrocha Ballpark.
