Today in Lawrence: Jayhawks take on New Mexico St. at 11:15

Back in the 70s

As promised, this weekend looks a lot better than the past few days, starting today. Look for a high temperature near 70 degrees sometime around 4 p.m., with no moisture and lots of sunshine in the forecast. Saturday and Sunday will be even warmer, with the forecast calling for highs of 75 both days.

Tip off

At 11:15 a.m., well, you know what happens. No. 2 Kansas University takes on No. 15 New Mexico State in some basketball tournament. Head over to KUSports.com for all the pre-game and in-game action. CBS is carrying the nationally televised game. Go Jayhawks!

Music to your ears

The nice weather will be a perfect backdrop for a trip to Downtown Lawrence to do some walking, shopping and dining. Then, as the sun starts dropping, head to one of several compelling musical options across downtown this weekend. Tonight it’s electro-pop duo Sylvan Esso with Flock of Dimes at The Bottleneck, 737 New Hampshire St. (doors at 8). Lawrence.com’s Fally Afani spoke with the band earlier this week. On Saturday, extend your music streak with veteran electronic artist Tycho at The Granada, 1020 Massachusetts St. (doors at 8; $20). The Replay Lounge, 946 Massachusetts St., has you covered Sunday night with The Stargazer Lilies (Graveface Records’ label mates with Lawrence’s own Hospital Ships).

And don’t forget to check out Lawrence.com’s Larryville Life for even more weekend picks.
