25 years ago: March sadness: Spring break, tournament end for KU students

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 19, 1990:

Kansas University students today agreed that the end of the Jayhawks’ NCAA basketball journey was a sad way to end spring break. “I got back and saw the last 30 seconds of the game,” said sophomore Curtis Brach of the Kansas loss to UCLA in Sunday’s NCAA East Regional tournament game in Atlanta. When Brach had first started watching the game, Kansas had been ahead 70-69, but with nine seconds left the Bruins had pulled ahead, winning 71-70. “It was depressing. It’s not the way to start the second half of the semester,” said Brach. KU senior Jana Gregory agreed that the loss was “heartbreaking” but added, “I don’t see how you can be disappointed in a team that won 30 games. You have to look at the big picture.”
