Letter: The truth

To the editor:

Leonard Pitts’ column about Bill O’Reilly was typical Leonard. He, like Bill, seems to have the impression that he knows what truth is for relevant news situations.

Some of the J-W readers could say the same about me. I agree that truth is absolutely essential when dealing with our individual, family and societal problems. My position is that there is only one truth and He is a person, Jesus Christ. He said so. Every situation and response must be weighted against His truth because our lives will be judged according to that truth.

He says that we will be accountable for every word we speak: “By our words we will be justified and by them we will be condemned.” The psalmist prayed, “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, Oh Lord, my strength and Redeemer.”

I realize that everyone doesn’t believe that the Bible is God’s truth, but isn’t it worth investigating to see if it is? Doesn’t it make sense that God would have the best counsel about how we are to live our lives if He is really omniscient? A person, a family or a nation can be successful if lived according to God’s truth.

There is only one opinion that counts in the greater scheme of things and it is the Lord’s. He alone is worthy of honor and praise; not Leonard, Bill or anyone else. Think about that this Easter season. Recall Pontius Pilate’s question, “What is truth.”
