25 years ago: 15th Street boundary proposed for new high school

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 9, 1990:

A boundary along 15th Street would be the best way to divide student enrollment between Lawrence High School and a proposed second high school, members of the Lawrence school board indicated in a study session this week. However, board members also discussed establishing school “hubs.” Under that proposal, students within walking distance of one of the schools would attend that school, regardless of the 15th Street boundary. The establishment of boundaries was just one of several topics discussed during the study session. The board also talked about space needs at the elementary schools and possible uses of the former administrative center. In other school news, a committee of school and city officials this week made recommendations after studying bus-loading problems at LHS. School Board President Mary Lou Wright, a member of the committee, announced the group’s recommendations, which included banning parking in the school’s bus-loading zone.
