Praeger to receive League of Women Voters award
Former Kansas Insurance Commissioner and former Lawrence Mayor Sandy Praeger will receive the Lawrence-Douglas County League of Women Voters’ 2015 Helen Fluker Open and Accessible Government award this weekend.
Praeger will be honored on Saturday with a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Smith Center, 4730 Brandon Woods Terrace. The League of Women Voters gives the annual award to honor a Douglas County resident “who shows leadership in promoting citizen participation in government,” a news release from the organization said.
In addition to insurance commissioner and mayor, Praeger has also served as a state legislator. She was also a founding member of Health Care Access, of the Haskell Indian Nations University Foundation and Court Appointed Special Advocates.
Luncheon tickets are $15. To make a reservation, visit lawrenceleague.com.
