25 years ago: Commission to discuss setting date for eastern parkway vote

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 4, 1990:

The proposed eastern parkway was likely to get some discussion during an upcoming meeting of the Lawrence City Commission, according to Mayor Bob Schumm. “I’m going to place on the agenda in two weeks (March 13) to discuss setting a vote date for the eastern parkway,” Schumm had stated last week. “I want to firm that date up so that the public knows we’re going ahead with this.” The parkway had been proposed to link downtown Lawrence with Kansas Highway 10 near the East Hills Business Park. Along with the proposed South Lawrence Trafficway and improvements on Hwy. 40, the eastern parkway was to provide another link in the proposed “circumferential loop” around the city. KDOT had estimated the cost of the parkway at $6.2 million.
