Douglas County chapter of Red Cross receives federal funds

The Douglas County chapter of the American Red Cross has received federal funds through the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

Douglas County has been chosen to receive $39,414 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

The selection was made by a national board led by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, The Jewish Federations of North America, The Salvation Army and United Way Worldwide.

A local board made up of representatives from United Way, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Douglas County government, the Jewish Federation and the Ministerial Alliance will determine how the money awarded to Douglas County will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by service agencies in the area.

Public or private agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds can contact United Way CEO Erika Dvorske at uwdirector@unitedwaydgco.org for an application. Deadline for application is 5 p.m. March 19.
