Seattle ? Rookie Mike Montgomery tossed a four-hitter against the team that drafted him, Dustin Ackley singled, doubled and homered for his first three-hit game of the season and Seattle beat Kansas City, 7-0, on Tuesday night.

Montgomery (2-2) became the second Mariners pitcher this season to toss a complete game, joining Felix Hernandez, and he became the 10th rookie in Seattle history to toss a complete game. Montgomery retired 17 straight batters at one point, striking out a career-high 10 and allowing only two base runners after the second inning.

Montgomery was originally drafted by the Royals, but was eventually traded to Tampa Bay before landing in Seattle via trade before the start of this season. He walked none and escaped a bases loaded jam in the first inning before overpowering Kansas City the rest of the way.

Ackley’s bat awoke thanks to Kansas City starter Jeremy Guthrie. Ackley had only one two-hit game all season, but lined a ground-rule double in his first at-bat against Guthrie (5-5) and added a single his next time up that eluded the glove of Alex Gordon’s sliding attempt in left field.

But the big blow was Ackley’s fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot off the top of the wall in right-center that gave Seattle a 6-0 lead. Ackley is 9 of 13 with four doubles and three home runs against Guthrie in his career.

Ackley nearly got the triple he needed for the cycle when he came up in the seventh. He hit a deep drive to left-center off Michael Mariot, but Lorenzo Cain was able to sprint over and make the catch.

Logan Morrison added a solo homer in the eighth inning, his ninth of the season.
