40 years ago: Corps to seek Mud Creek bids

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 22, 1975:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced this week they were expecting to advertise in mid-July for bids to channelize Mud Creek. Corps officials said bids would be taken no earlier than Sept. 1, possibly later. The $4.07 million project, in cooperation with Lawrence and the Douglas County-Kaw Drainage District, was designed to alleviate flooding problems in North Lawrence. The cost estimate was based on 1974 figures; Corps officials said they were revising the estimate and would have a new figure, probably slightly higher, before the project was bid. The Mud Creek work was the second of three phases in the Lawrence Flood Protection project. The first phase, the Kansas River levee, had been completed; the third phase, a flood control levee in East Lawrence near 11th and Haskell, was not expected to be undertaken.
