A collection of black-and-white portraits offering a rare and intimate glimpse of Beat Generation writer and former Lawrencian William S. Burroughs is now available to the public.

Patrick Clement, a recent Kansas University graduate, is the editor behind “7786 – Burroughs, Wm.” that he says sheds new light on Burroughs.

Clement was a senior in film and media studies when he assembled “7786 – Burroughs, Wm.” from more than 20,000 previously unseen photo negatives of the counter-culture icon taken at the former Hixon Studios in Lawrence in 1983. The book explores concepts of iconography and identity performance, Clement said in a news release

The book was published in part through Undergraduate Research and Interdisciplinary Research Grant Funding from KU, as well as with the help of a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign last winter.

“7786 – Burroughs, Wm.”, which is now available for $10 only at The Raven Book Store at 6 E. Seventh St., also received an Outstanding Research Award at KU’s 2015 Undergraduate Research Symposium last month.
