40 years ago: County wheat harvest trickling in

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 20, 1975:

The first Douglas County wheat was delivered to the Farmers Co-Op today by Ed Hadl. Paul Gabriel of the Co-Op said he had received a total of 60-70 bushels of wheat so far today and that the grain was testing at 16.5-17 percent moisture, which he said was “not bad.” Jim Faulkner, manager of Baldwin Grain Co., said some wheat in his area had been cut but not delivered, while Don Harris at Farmers’ Elevator Co. in Eudora said he had tested a small sample but it was too moist to justify harvesting. About 50 bushels had been brought to DeSoto Grain Co., but manager Earl Ashley said the moisture content was high and that farmers there should wait before harvesting. No wheat had yet been received at Perry, Overbrook, or Wellsville.
