Free State tennis coach resigns

Free State High boys and girls tennis coach Oather Strawderman resigned last month at the end of the school year.

Strawderman coached the Firebirds for six seasons, leading the boys to third place at their regional in May and fourth in the Sunflower League meet. He also coached Alexis Czapinski, now with Kansas University, to second place at the Class 6A girls state tournament in 2013.

“Oather has been a fantastic coach,” FSHS athletic director Mike Hill said. “He’s a consummate professional and I think he’s helped the tennis program, and the kids within in the program, make great strides in the last number of years. He will certainly be missed.”
