25 years ago: Storms bring damaging winds to Clinton Lake marina

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 16, 1990:

Storms tearing through the area in the past 48 hours had caused extensive damage to the Clinton Lake marina, where workers thought a tornado might have struck, based on the damage left behind. Amy Waibel, manager of the marina, said high winds on the previous day had “just worsened matters a little bit,” finishing the work of an earlier storm of tearing away a dock. With more storms in the forecast, marina workers were spending nearly every hour “trying to tie things down,” Waibel said. “There is so much damage, it’s kind of overwhelming. We really don’t know where to start…. We speculate it might have been a twister,” she added. “There actually is a path of debris.” Area rainfall amounts for the previous 24 hours had ranged from .86 of an inch in Worden to 2.58 inches in Lecompton.
