Lions’ Taylor on all-state softball team

Lawrence High junior shortstop Sophie Taylor earned Class 6A first-team all-state honors, and three city softball players were placed on the second team by the Kansas Softball Coaches Association.

LHS seniors Morgan Byrn (infield) and Jolona Shield (utility) were selected second-team all-state, along with Free State High senior outfielder Kylie Cobb.

Among area players, Mill Valley freshman Peyton Moeder (outfield) earned first-team honors in 5A, De Soto senior Sarah Salvini (outfield) was a first-team choice in 4A, while De Soto senior Morgan Stonestreet (infield) was placed on the second team.

In 3A, Wellsville freshman Jordan Stringfield (infield) and senior Ashley Sparks (outfield) earned first-team selections, and Oskalooa junior Haidyn Bassett (pitcher) was placed on the second team.

McLouth junior Shannone Greene (pitcher) and senior Angela Dailey (outfield) were selected for the first team in 2-1A.
