The United Way of Douglas County, Lawrence Community Shelter, Ballard Community Services, the Salvation Army and the Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority launched the Money Matters program, a series of personal financial management classes offered free to people striving for self-sufficiency. Classes are held on Thursday evenings, 5:45-8 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 10th and New Hampshire streets. Volunteers are needed to assist with setting up the classroom, securing donations of food and prize giveaways, serving food, putting away tables and chairs and transporting guests to and from the Lawrence Community Shelter. • The Lawrence College and Career Center prepares students for their future through hands-on learning experiences. The Lawrence College & Career Center seeks business and industry representatives to assist with its training programs. Volunteers will work with Lawrence College & Career Center teachers to develop lessons. Professional Skills Training is provided at the Lawrence College & Career Center on Thursdays from 10:30-11 a.m. and 12:15-12:45 p.m. Please contact Patrick Kelly at pkelly@usd497.org or at 832-5000, ext. 2405, for more information.

• The Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic at KU offers comprehensive services to people with communicative disorders throughout the university community and surrounding area. The Sertoma-Schiefelbusch Communication Camp is in need of volunteers to help run activities stations for children ages 4-10. The Communication Camp is June 22-July 2, 1-4 p.m., in Building 21 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Volunteers will need to arrive at 12:30 p.m. for preparation. • The Lawrence-Douglas Health Department is looking for a volunteer to assist one of their Project Lively clients with cleaning the gutters on her house. For more information, please contact Jenn Preston at jpreston@ldchealth.org or at 843-5353.

• The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence provides before and after school programming to over 1,400 children at 14 sites across Lawrence. Volunteers are needed to plan and implement programs for elementary and middle school students at one of the 5 summer sites. • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County has a young boy who is waiting for a mentor. He enjoys spending time outdoors, biking, hiking, playing video games and trying new activities. Call 843-7359 to learn more about becoming a mentor, or attend a BBBS Information Session held every Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. and every Wednesday at noon.
