Bondsman pulls weapon during Lawrence chase; fugitive taken into custody

A 30-year-old man, wanted for skipping bail, was taken into police custody Saturday evening after he ran from two bail bondsmen, Lawrence police said.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., the man fled from the bondsmen in the 500 block of Louisiana St., said Lawrence Police Sgt. Amy Rhoads. He ran north, possibly stealing a bicycle in the process, she said.

During the chase, one of the bondsmen drew a weapon, Rhoads said, but the weapon never was discharged.

The fugitive was taken into custody without further incident or injury shortly before 6 p.m., Rhoads said. He will be released into the custody of the bondsmen.

Rhoads did not identify the fugitive and could not immediately say what initial charge or charges the fugitive’s bond stemmed from, or what kind of weapon the bondsman drew.
