Today in Lawrence: Coffee with the mayor, free city band concert

Back to normal

The chance for late-week thunderstorms continues to decrease, and it’s looking more and more like today’s beautiful weather will hold out past the weekend. The National Weather Service in Topeka is calling for a high of 84 degrees this afternoon, with an overnight low of 66 and no chance for precipitation. That same forecast could hold true Thursday-Sunday, too.

Speak your mind

The temperature will be 72 degrees at 9 a.m. this morning, when Mayor Jeremy Farmer hosts Conversations with a Commissioner at Decade Coffee Shop, 920 Delaware St. It’s a free chance to share with the mayor your ideas on city issues. But it’s also a great opportunity to check out the quickly growing Warehouse Arts District, including the new lofts sprouting at Delaware and Ninth Streets, and the coffee craftsmanship of Decade, an East Lawrence gem that deserves some broader recognition.

Paying tribute

Finally, at 8 p.m., grab some bug spray and a picnic blanket and trek out into the sweet evening to South Park for the Lawrence City Band’s next concert, “A Musical Tribute to World War I.” Check out the complete concert schedule here.
