Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department offering mud fort class

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is offering a class for children ages 7 to 12 to learn how to build a mud fort.

The two-day class, which runs 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 17 and 18, will discuss how six mud forts were built to protect Lawrence in its early years. The discussion will be held the first day of the program at the Union Pacific Depot, 402 N. 2nd St. On the second day, the class will move outside to Constant Park, 230 W. 6th St., for the construction of the mud fort.

An adult is required to participate with each child. The cost of the class is $30 per team. Teams must pre-register to attend the class.

Registration for the class can be done online at http://lprd.org/activity?n=321131 or by visiting any of Lawrence’s Parks and Recreation facilities.
