Big inning dooms Raiders to 10-9 youth baseball setback

The Midwest Orioles overcame a four-run deficit with a nine-run fifth inning and defeated the Lawrence Raiders, 10-9, in youth baseball Saturday at Hoglund Ballpark.

The Raiders — who came into the game riding a six-game winning streak — led 5-1 after scoring four runs in the first inning and one in the second.

Nolan Prochaska, Parker Tietjen and Zak McAlister each had two hits for the Raiders. McAlister (1-3) took the loss.

“Zak was pitching a pretty good ballgame,” Raiders coach Brad Romme said. “We had a couple mistakes, and we just let it snowball on us. Other than that, we played solid baseball. But you can’t let your head down one second in a seven-inning ballgame. They got it to 10-9. If we play clean baseball, we’re in good shape.”

The Raiders (14-14-1) will face the BTL Lancers at 7 tonight at Hoglund Ballpark.
