Douglas County CASA to offer tours of summer playhouse

Volunteers advocating for abused and neglected children are offering tours of a one-of-a-kind playhouse this summer before giving it away to a raffle winner, Douglas County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) said in a release.

The playhouse, called the “Shire,” was designed by high school students in Lawrence and inspired by the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. The structure boasts a look-out tower, an artificial grass roof, a slide, a climbing wall, circular doors and a loft.

Douglas County CASA will offer tours of the Shire throughout Lawrence in July and August, while selling $5 tickets for a chance to win the playhouse at the tour’s end.

The raffle winner will be selected Aug. 28 at Abe & Jake’s Landing, 8 East Sixth St. Tickets can be purchased online at dccasa.org or at The Merc, 901 Iowa St., People’s Bank, 3045 Iowa St. and 4831 West Sixth St., and Hy-Vee, 3504 Clinton Parkway.
