City announces hours for services, activities for holiday weekend

The City of Lawrence has announced hours for various services and activities over the July 4 holiday weekend:

• City offices will be closed on Friday.

• The holiday will not affect residential or commercial trash and recycling collection routes this week. Residential and commercial trash and recycling collections scheduled for Fridays will be completed on Friday, July 3, as usual.

• The holiday will also not affect the Compost Facility Saturday hours. The facility located at 1420 E. 11th St. will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the following:

— Residents may drop off brush and other yard waste. Cost: $5 per pickup truck load (more for larger trucks). Cash only.

— Residents may purchase compost or woodchips. Self-load only, bring a shovel. Cost: $10 per pickup truck load (more for larger trucks). Cash only.

• There will be no Lawrence Transit bus service on Saturday. Fixed-route and paratransit buses will not operate.

• To report a water or sewer emergency after business hours or during weekends and holidays, contact the Utilities Department at (785) 832-7800.

Parking at meters and parking garages in downtown Lawrence will be free on Friday and Saturday.

• All recreation facilities will be open regular hours on Friday, but they will all be closed on Saturday, including Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.; the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.; and Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane. All facilities will reopen with regular hours on Sunday.

• The Parks and Recreation Administrative Office in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St. and the cemeteries office will be closed Friday. The Administrative Office will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday.

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be open Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., but no programs are scheduled for the day. It will be closed on Saturday, reopening on Sunday with regular hours.

Unified Day Camp will not be held Friday. Also, the Special Populations /Swim Team class will not be held on Saturday.

Recreation classes will be held on Friday, but no programming will be held on Saturday and Sunday. Summer Playgrounds will not be held Friday.

• No Adult Sports League games are scheduled for Friday-Sunday. Youth Sports League games will not be held on the holiday and will resume Monday.

• There will be no aquatic fitness or instructional classes held Saturday.

Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center, 1250 E. 902 Road, will be open and is accepting tee times online or by phone, at www.lprd.org or (785) 748-0600.

• The Aquatic Division will have altered hours for the holiday. The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, on Saturday, will feature lap swimming from 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. The leisure pool, zero-depth area, slide and diving well will be open 1 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St., will have lap swimming 10 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., and the leisure pool, zero-depth area, slide and diving boards will be open from 1 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

South Park Wading Pool, 1131 Massachusetts St., will be closed on Saturday and will reopen Monday on its regular schedule.
