Five Lawrence students selected as Presidential Scholar candidates

Five high school seniors in Lawrence have been selected as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program, the United States Department of Education said in a release.

The students are:

  • Brian Chang of Lawrence High School
  • Wynn Feddema of Free State High School
  • Weston Hack of Free State High School
  • Anna Westbrook of Free State High School
  • Jack Ziegler of Free State High School

Each year, more than 3,900 candidates are selected around the country. Those candidates are then narrowed down to about 560 semifinalists.

In April, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects up to 121 academic scholars and up to 20 arts scholars, the release said. Scholars are selected for their academic and artistic accomplishments, as well as for their leadership skills and involvement within their school and community.
