Lawrence Humane Society to host microchip clinic this week

The Lawrence Humane Society is hosting a microchip clinic this week to implant pets with the most effective animal-recovery technology, Executive Director Kate Meghji said.

Between Tuesday and Saturday pet owners can take their pets to the humane society, 1805 East 19th St., and have a microchip implanted for $10 per animal, Meghji said.

About one third of all pets will be lost during their lifetime, Meghji said. About 10 percent are returned to their owners. With the help of microchips, those numbers can dramatically increase.

Each microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted between the pet’s shoulder blades, Meghji said. The technology contains a unique identification number linking each animal to its owner.
