Back-to-back productive outings from Kansas University freshman backup power forward Cliff Alexander earned him Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday morning.

A 6-foot-8 freshman from Chicago, Alexander led Kansas to two wins over top-25 teams, as the Jayhawks knocked off Oklahoma at home, and went down to Texas for another win that put them in sole possession of first place in the league.

Alexander averaged 14 points and 11 rebounds, and hit 55.6 percent of his shots in the two KU wins. He had his second double-double of the season against OU: 13 points and a career-high 13 boards.

The freshman big man’s 15 points led Kansas at UT, and he added nine boards. It marked the first time this season Alexander scored in double figures two games in a row.

The honor made it the second week in a row a Jayhawk won the league’s newcomer award. Kelly Oubre Jr., a two-time recipient this season, picked it up the previous week.
