Today in Lawrence: Get your tickets to see the president

The annual MLK Chili Feed will be 5 p.m. today at New York School, 936 New York St.

Winter returns?

Today won’t be as nice as Monday, but it’s still weather that’s hard to complain about for mid-January. This morning will start out with temperatures in the 30s and will get up close to 50 with wind gusts reaching 20 mph.

Get your Obama tickets

In case you haven’t heard, President Barack Obama is coming to good ol’ LFK and will be giving a speech at KU this Thursday to discuss themes from his State of the Union address. The event at Anschutz Sports Pavilion is free and open to the public, but you still need a ticket to get in. They go on sale to the public starting at 5 p.m. today at the Dreher 4-H Building on the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St., but they’re expected to go fast so you might want to get in line early.

MLK Chili Feed

The Lawrence community is invited to come together to celebrate the legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. at the annual MLK Chili Feed at 5 p.m. today at New York School, 936 New York St. The meal includes chili, drinks, condiments and dessert. Cash donations will be accepted but nobody will be turned away if they can’t pay.
