Douglas County is once again preparing for the annual Relay For Life fundraising campaign.

With proceeds going to the American Cancer Society, the 2015 relay is scheduled for June 12-13, the Douglas County Relay For Life’s planning committee said in a release. The event will be held at the Free State High School track.

Originally started in Washington in 1985, Relay For Life has become a worldwide fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.

Those interested in forming a team for the relay are invited to the Team Captain open house on Jan. 27 at the Lawrence Public Library’s auditorium, the release said. The open house will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

A traditional team captain meeting will also be held that evening from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
