Today in Lawrence: Casting calls and a campy classic

David Bowie is at his all-time campiest in Labyrinth, Sunday at Liberty Hall.

Lit on wheels

No, you don’t have to keep your eyes on the road when the Lawrence Public Library Book Van brings the reading right to the doorsteps of several area retirement communities. Catch the van at one of three stops Friday: 9-10 a.m., Clinton Place, 2125 Clinton Parkway; 10:30-11:30 a.m., Wyndham Place, 2551 Crossgate Drive; and 1-2 p.m., Peterson Acres, 2930 Peterson Road.

Kid stars

On Saturday, aspiring young actors and their parents can head over to the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., for a range of fun auditions. “Sleeping Beauty,” “Anansi the Spider” and “Alice in Wonderland” are all casting parts. Children 5 through 8 try out from 2 to 3 p.m., with 9- through 11-year-olds following from 3 to 4 p.m. Ages 12 and up will audition from 4 to 5 p.m.

Go camping

And don’t miss a chance to time-travel back to the mid-1980s with David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly in fantasy, family, campy and kind-of-spooky cult classic “Labyrinth.” Liberty Hall, 644 Massachussetts St., has screenings at 4 and 7 p.m. Sunday. $8 for adults, $7 for kids.
