Letter: Casting blame

To the editor:

I think that George Gurley’s Journal-World column of Jan. 4 was a reminder of how we can easily blame the other guy(s) for whatever we want since we think of ourselves as blameless.

Of course, Jesus said we are all evil (Luke 11:13) and warned us not to judge others unless we remove the beam from our own eye (Matthew 7:1-5); and we judge righteously and not by appearance (John 7:24). The Apostle Paul said we should speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). These are ways we should address critical issues in the public arena. But you may say, “Was it love when Jesus told Peter, ‘Get behind me Satan, you are a hindrance to me,’ or the Pharisees, ‘You brood of vipers?'”

You see, Jesus is the truth and he expressed his love for everyone by dying on the cross. But what about us? How do we know the truth and how do we speak it in love? We can do both if we choose to believe in Jesus because he said that he would send the spirit of truth who would guide us into all truth (John 16:13) and if we truly love our neighbor as ourselves. The Gurley headline got it right, “In your dreams.” Make your dream a reality and choose to believe in Jesus.
