The National Weather Service in Topeka has extended the winter weather advisory for Lawrence and surrounding areas until 1 a.m. Sunday.

Rain and snow this afternoon are expected to transition to all snow this evening, the weather service said. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are likely as snow continues through the evening. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected this evening, which could cause blowing and drifting of snow.

Roads may refreeze overnight and become slick early Sunday, the weather service said.
