Lawrence chapter of NAACP to host membership drive through month’s end

Lawrence’s chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is hosting a membership drive through the end of February to try to double its membership, chapter president Ursula Minor said.

Through the end of Black History Month anyone wishing to become a member of Lawrence’s NAACP chapter will be offered a discounted membership fee of $18.20, Minor said. Normally the annual fee is $30, she said.

Currently Lawrence’s NAACP chapter has 25 members, Minor said, but the group needs 50 members to be in full compliance with the organization’s regulations and to be allowed to vote at the organization’s state meetings.

“We can do everything else; it’s just the voting part,” Minor said. “It’s very important, even with local elections. Who you vote on is how things go, and we just want to have a say.”

Anyone interested in becoming involved with the organization is encouraged to email Minor at lawrenceksnaacp@gmail.com.
