Topeka ? Free State High’s Jack Ziegler was top qualifier in the 50 free, teammate Jordan Portela led qualifiying in the 100 butterfly, and both swam on the top 400 freestyle relay team during preliminary rounds of the Class 6A state swimming and diving meet on Friday at Capitol Federal Natatorium.

Portela also qualified No. 2 in the 200 free, and Ziegler qualified third in the 100 free.

They were joined by Evan Eskilson and Nolan Stoppel on the top 400 free relay team.

Lawrence High’s top qualifier was Stephen Johnson, who tied for second in the 500 and sixth in the 200 free.

The top eight qualifiers will swim in championship finals today, while Nos. 9-16 will compete in consolation finals.
