40 years ago: Legislators tour KU ‘trouble spots’ for budget review

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 16, 1975:

Three members of the Kansas Legislature visited Kansas University this week to inspect problem areas where repairs had been delayed due to budget cuts. Three representatives, acting as a subcommittee of the Kansas House Ways and Means Committee, toured KU and examined trouble spots such as the leaking roof in Robinson Gymnasium, the cramped quarters of the Women’s Athletic Department in Allen Fieldhouse, and the overworked computer facilities in Summerfield Hall. Appropriations to repair these problems, requested by KU, had been cut back or eliminated by the regents or Gov. Robert Bennett in his budget recommendations. KU officials were hoping to make a case to the Ways and Means Committee for reinstatement of the items into its budget.
