The Kansas Department of Agriculture said it awarded Hamm, Inc., of Perry, the 2014 Governor’s Mined Land Reclamation Award for its reclamation work at Overbrook Quarry in Osage County, an 80-acre site mined for 30 years. The department gives the award to a company “that demonstrated excellence in implementing mined land reclamation and conveying a positive image of mining in Kansas.” John Strome, general manager for Hamm Inc., said, “The landowner requested the property be returned to hay and livestock production, recreation and wildlife habitat. We made sure the slopes were gradual enough for hay production and even built fencing for three separate pastures.”
