Second architecture dean candidate coming to KU

The second of four candidates for dean of the Kansas University School of Architecture, Design and Planning will visit campus this week.

David Edelman will give a public presentation from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Friday at The Forum in Marvin Hall, 1465 Jayhawk Blvd. A reception will follow.

Edelman is professor of planning and was director of the School of Planning for 11 years at the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning of the University of Cincinnati.

He was formerly chairman of the Department of Urban Environmental Management at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies of Erasmus University, Rotterdam. Professionally certified in the U.S., Switzerland and the Netherlands, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ohio State chapter of the American Planning Association and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Candidate Mahesh Daas, chair of the Department of Architecture at Ball State University, visited KU last week. The two remaining candidates, whose names have not yet been announced, are expected to visit Feb. 17-18 and Feb. 24-25.

Current architecture dean John Gaunt will step down at the end of the spring semester after 20 years in the job.
