Firebirds’ Rose tapped Kansas girls track coach of year

Free State High track and field coach Jordan Rose was selected as the 2014 Kansas girls track and field Coach of the Year by the National Federation Coaches Association.

Rose, who led the Firebirds to their second straight state championship last season, also was honored as the coach of the year from Section 5, which includes high schools in Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.

De Soto High’s Junelle Woolery was selected as the Kansas softball coach of the year, and De Soto’s Chris McAfee was picked as the girls cross country coach of the year. Meanwhile, Jeremy Struemph, who resides in Lawrence, was recognized as the Kansas wrestling official of the year.
