Kansas University’s Audio-Reader Network provides print-disabled people in Kansas and Missouri with access to reading material via electronic media and other technologies. Audio-Reader is looking for volunteer readers to read Kansas City-area newspapers from the Audio-Reader studio at Alphapointe, 7501 Prospect Ave. Volunteers must pass an audition consisting of a 100-word pronunciation test and a series of reading samples. • Lawrence Habitat for Humanity works with low-income families to give them the opportunity to own their own home. Lawrence Habitat is searching for individuals to join its Women Build Committee. Women Build is a program for women who want to learn construction skills and build homes for our community. No experience is necessary. • Dads of Douglas County is a nonprofit organization of men and women dedicated to supporting fathers. The agency is looking for volunteers to fill two positions on the board of directors: a communications coordinator, who will develop, guide and implement the strategy for all promotional and marketing efforts; and a treasurer, whose primary responsibility will be to oversee the management and report on the organization’s finances. • Headquarters Counseling strives to provide emotional support and safety to people in Douglas County, through readily available counseling, education and information services. Headquarters is expanding its fundraising committee. Responsibilities of the committee include assisting with the acquisition of services, donations and sponsorship for upcoming events. • Ballard Community Services provides affordable early education and essential basic life assistance to families and individuals in need. • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County provides one-to-one relationships for children facing adversity. For a few hours, a couple times a month, you can give a “Little” the invaluable gift of your friendship. Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for a male mentor to spend time with a 6-year-old boy on the waiting list. This boy is interested in cooking, playing games and doing arts and crafts.
