Today in Lawrence: Sunshine, warmth and serious music

Revenge of sunshine

Winter remembered its place earlier this week, but the sun will reign again starting today. Look for a Friday high of 59 followed by afternoon temperatures in the 60s Saturday and Sunday — and lots of sunshine. Early next week is looking good so far, too: 57 Monday and 63 Tuesday.

Fiddle me this

Loretta Kelley has performed and taught hardingfele (Norwegian for “Hardanger fiddle”) for more than 20 years in the U.S. and abroad. Catch Kelley and her Norwegian Hardanger Fiddle Concert at 7:30 tonight at the old Union Pacific Depot, 501 North Second St.

Fiddle me that

OK, so there’s no fiddle to be seen here, but KU professor of piano Michael Kirkendoll, his wife, flutist Mary Fukushima, and company will perform as the Cortona Collective at 7:30 tonight at Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. They’ll perform contemporary classical music by living composers from around the world. $20 adults, $15 seniors, $5 students.
