Notebook: No. 1 versus No. 2 on the horizon?

Kansas guard Wayne Selden Jr. (1) floats in for a bucket as he is defended by UC Irvine guard Dominique Dunning (24) during the second half, Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015 at Allen Fieldhouse.

There’s a chance Kansas University and Oklahoma will be ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the AP poll on Monday.

The Jayhawks and Sooners play Monday night at Allen Fieldhouse.

Nos. 1 and 2 have squared off just once in the history of Allen. No. 2 Missouri beat No. 1 KU, 77-71, in 1990.

Of Michigan State losing to Iowa on Tuesday (and possibly dropping in the polls), Kansas coach Bill Self said: “I didn’t think about it. It doesn’t matter. All that matters to me is we play well over a 48-hour period this weekend. That’s all that really matters.”

KU plays Baylor on Saturday and OU on Monday, after defeating UC Irvine 78-53 on Tuesday.

Anthem: Kurtis Townsend’s daughter, Myka, sang the national anthem. KU coach Bill Self slapped hands with Kurtis after the beautiful rendition.

This, that: KU has won 30 straight games in Allen. KU is 196-9 in Allen during the Self era including a 97-5 mark against non-conference foes. … Frank Mason III had 13 points, six assists and three steals in 31 minutes.

Moses attends game: Blake Moses, who started at center for Bill Self at Oral Roberts, was to attend Tuesday’s game. He brought family members to town for Sunday’s KU Basketball Clinic.

Moses, 6-9, 250 from Magnolia, Arkansas, chatted with KU forward Mickelson of Jonesboro, Arkansas, after Monday’s KU practice.

“Blake came to ORU after we got pretty good. Blake’s first year we went 18-9, the second year 21-7. He told me it was largely due to him anchoring the center position so well,” Self said with a laugh on his Hawk Talk radio show. Oral Roberts went 6-21 and 10-17 in Self’s first two years at the Tulsa school, prior to Moses’ arrival.

“We called him ‘Little Country’ (after former Oklahoma State player Bryant Reeves). Blake’s not as big. He’s better looking than Bryant. He and Hunter spoke today. They spoke the same language, hunting and fishing,” added Self, obviously happy to see Moses, as well as two managers from Oral Roberts who also brought children to the clinic.
